Description

The International Day of Light is a global initiative highlighting to the citizens of the world the importance of light and light-based technologies in their lives, for their futures, and for the development of society. SPIE International Day of Light Micro Grants will support local community events and activities that highlight the critical role that light plays in our daily lives.

The IDL Micro Grant review process is competitive. The maximum grant amount is $3,000 (USD) with many partial grants awarded each year. 

The IDL Micro Grants are available to SPIE Members only. Membership must be active through June 2021.

IDL Micro grant application must highlight the critical role that light plays in our daily lives.

Event or activity must take place during May 2021. Virtual or hybrid events are acceptable and encouraged if in-person events are not possible due to COVID or in-person gathering restrictions.

Application must be completed and submitted by 5:00 pm (Pacific Standard Time) on December 1, 2020. Winners will be notified by 31 January 2021.

A report to the Society on how the micro grant was used must be submitted by July 2021.
